MOD BOHO ALPHABET QUILT
This quilt was an experiment in 'firsts'. I wanted to try following a quilt pattern, this first attempt is one by Bound Co, it's called the "Letra Quilt". I greatly expanded on the basic format of the block letters, it was a very small quilt, almost a throw, and I wanted to make a queen-size. So I added extra blocks all around the perimeter. The graphic nature of the fabrics is much bolder than I usually go, the result has a bohemian mod vibe to it.
The second thing I wanted to try with this project was free-form quilting. I thought a meandering, loopy stitching would play nicely against the blocky nature of the patterns.
The backing is a very strong striped fabric in dark blue and kelly green. The finishing touch of the binding in a polka dot works successfully alongside the colors of the fabrics.
